Splish Splash! Paseos Park

For Family Night we decided to check out Paseos Park. The park is in a beautiful area, nestled up against the Red Rock Canyon. We had a late start getting there, but it was still plenty warm to run around in the fountains. The kids loved it! We'll have to head back on a scorcher day, which shouldn't be too hard in Vegas!

Best Buds

Our good friends Chris and Tiffanie came to visit us with their little girls and Kayla quickly found a new buddy! She's had a hard time since leaving her best friend Isaac in California so Chloe was just what she needed to cheer her up.

And Evan was in love with little Ella, giving her sweet hugs.  The poor sweetie got hurt right after they arrived though, running into the leg of our table and splitting her lip open. Poor thing! But Evan made sure to give her some extra attention. ;)

We had a great time visiting. We took the girls swimming, which of course turned into all-out war with the boys and water guns. Too bad I didn't get any pictures! After swimming we went for a quick bite to eat and some frozen yogurt.  Here's the guys- they really do act like kids when they get together!!

And their better half's. Haha

It was too short as always, but luckily they came back over Mother's Day weekend. More pics to come of that.....plus Kayla's birthday. I'm so behind it's not even funny. But hey, at least I'm posting now which is progress!

Ice Box Canyon

A few weeks ago we took a hike into Ice Box Canyon. We read there's a beautiful waterfall a mile back or so and really wanted to see it. I love Red Rock Canyon. And lucky for us, the kids think hiking is the best so they're willing to tag along. Although I think Evan's favorite part is taking sips from the Camelbak- hence the potty breaks every 1/4 mile. Oh well it's the desert, the trees can use some extra watering! Here's a view of what we passed on our way to the trailhead.

Ice Box trailhead.

Lost Creek was as far as we made it with the kids. It gets pretty difficult from this point on. We packed a lunch and had a little picnic on the rocks.

Do we look like total granolas or what?! haha

Lauren cliff jumping. She's definitely the daredevil of the bunch. Crazy girl.

Evan's favorite hobby is to collect sticks along the trail. I know, not the best idea. Kind of like running with scissors.....

We drenched the kids shirts in the creek to cool them off for the hike back. They were dry in about ten minutes. I didn't feel the need to join the wet tshirt contest. Tempting though...

Sometime Ryan and I want to try this hike alone so we can make it to the Falls. One day. Any takers on babysitting?

Heading back!

View as you leave the canyon.

Lauren in her usual throne. Love those dimples!

More of the Red Rocks. Sorry for the excess of pictures. I just love the landscape!

Vegas Baby!

Yep, we really live here now. I can't believe we've been here for almost a month already! And despite what you may think we are actually enjoying ourselves. We live in a good area with a park nearby for walks and bike rides, and we live close to Red Rock Canyon so there's plenty of trails for hiking or mountain biking. And who can beat the weather?! Just don't ask me in another month or two when its well above the triple digits. But hey, we have a pool so we're good right?!

Ryan had a week off when we moved so we were able to get organized quickly and have a few days together to relax. We headed to Red Rock and found some hiking trails that were short enough for the kids to go on. The first one we tried was Willow Springs Loop Trail which had a special section called the Children's Discovery Trail. We picked up a brochure at the visitor's center that told you fun facts to read to the kids at spots along the trail. Our kids didn't listen very intently but I'm sure other children might.

That girl has it so easy

Two little monkeys

If you look close you can see the cliff drawings

Scrambling up the trail. They were both so independent and insisted they didn't need any help!

Can't remember if this is called Willow Springs or if this was Lost Creek Falls. It wasn't running very much but still pretty to see, and much cooler once we got in the shade.

Cooling off in the shade

Little goofballs along for the ride on the trail next to our apartment. Don't you just LOVE Evan's shades?! Poor boy. Can you say blackmail photo?

Picnic at the park

Here's a look at Lauren all grown up- tall and skinny!! Don't know where she gets it :)

Ryan's sister Angela came to visit us the week after we got here. She came through with her sis and mom-in-law on their way back from CA. We hadn't seen her for over two years so it was great to catch up, even just for a few hours.

Sorry about the blur. Not sure what was up with my camera. Pretty sure the battery was going dead, but these two were the best I got. Sorry Ang!

Anyway, I've filled my blog quota for the......year I think so I'm done! JK, I'm really going to try to keep this updated more regularly now. "Regularly" is relative you know. Look below for my other latest post of our St. George trip. Next up- a post of our latest hikes and a visit from our good friends Chris and Tiffanie with their two cute girls. Til then!
